Roz FAQ
Short, straight answers about how Roz handles rostering, compliance, staff comms, pricing, and your data.
What is Roz?
An AI-powered staff rostering tool for small-to-medium businesses like cafes, clinics, retail, multi-site operators, and production teams. It builds, validates, and publishes rosters, messages staff over WhatsApp, Telegram, and email, and — when a staff member calls in sick or becomes unavailable — rebuilds the affected part of the roster and proposes swaps that respect your rules, so you're not rebuilding the week by hand at 6am.
Is Roz the same product as SmartRoster?
Yes. SmartRoster became Roz in 2026 — same product, same team, new name. We renamed the product after Roz, the AI at the centre of it. Your account, pricing, and the app do not change.
How does AI rostering work in Roz?
You give Roz the shifts you need covered and your constraints. It drafts a roster, checks it against your rules (rest hours, qualifications, blackouts), and flags coverage gaps, overtime risk, and certification mismatches before they happen. You review and publish — nothing goes out without your sign-off.
Does Roz handle staff availability and compliance rules?
Yes. A deterministic rules engine enforces configurable rules — rest hours between shifts, required qualifications and certifications, and availability blackouts — every time a roster is built or changed. The rules engine keeps running even if you've used up your AI review allowance.
How do staff find out about their shifts?
Roz messages staff on the channel they already use — WhatsApp, Telegram, or email. Staff reply on WhatsApp, Telegram, or in the Roz app to request leave, swap a shift, or say they're running late — email is outbound only — and Roz updates the roster and keeps everything in sync.
What happens when someone calls in sick?
Roz rebuilds the affected shifts, looks for replacements who satisfy your rules (right qualifications, not over their hours cap, available that day), proposes the change, and — once you approve — messages the staff involved.
Which industries is Roz built for?
Cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs, clinics (including vet clinics), retail, multi-site operators, production/media teams, and volunteer or community groups. Each gets roster views and rules suited to how that business actually schedules — by person, by slot, by site, or by role.
Can Roz roster across multiple sites?
Yes. Multi-site operators get a by-site view and cross-site balancing, so a gap at one location doesn't cascade across the others. Site limits depend on your plan: 1 site on Lite, up to 8 on Pro, and unlimited on Custom.
How much does Roz cost?
Lite is $49/month. Starter is $79/month and Pro is $350/month for your first 12 months if you're one of our first 100 customers, then $149 and $499. All prices are AUD and include GST. There's also a Custom plan for larger operators. Pricing scales with sites and active staff, not seats — management users are unlimited on every plan. See full pricing.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — every plan includes a 14-day free trial with no card required to start. You get the full product during the trial and can cancel any time.
Where is my data stored?
Sign-up and roster data is stored in a managed Postgres database in Sydney, Australia. Authentication is handled by Clerk. See the privacy policy for details.
